This browser sure has come a long way. They have managed to update the interface and polish it a bit without slowing it down speed-wise. But having used it a couple hours now, I find it useable only as a secondary browser. There are several deal breakers that stop me from using it as my primary browser. Others have mentioned a few of these shortfalls already and they are omissions, that in today's world, should automatically be included a part of the browser.
iCab Shortcomings:
1) No automatic password saving for signing in on websites (if they ever add this feature, I hope they do it right. Camino is another great browser but only allows saving one password per site. This is no good if you have more than one person using the same computer or if one person has several accounts).
2) No direct inline keyword search. This important & extremely handy feature allows the user to highlight any word on a web page and with a click & hold, bring down a pull-down menu to "Search Web for insert keyword". I use this all the time in several other browsers and it shouldn't have been left out. It saves multiple steps when you want to check something out whether it be the meaning of a word, search the specs on a model number, etc...
3) Very limited tab management abilities. OK, I'm a little spoiled. I've been using one Mozilla-based browser add on for quite some time called "Tab Clicking Options" on some browsers and installed "TwiceTab" for Safari to extend the limited settings for Tabs in those browsers. I like to be able to simply double click on a tab bar and automatically have a new tab appear. I also like to be able to double click any where on an existing tab and have it close. Yes, iCab provides a very small X to click off the tab but I still prefer the easier double clicking anywhere on the tab.
What I like about iCab:
1) Send Mail Feature
2) Browser Identity Feature Although, some websites still ban certain OS's so it would be nice if there was a way to disguise that too.
3) The New OSX-like Preferences interface
4) Check Bookmarks Feature This is priceless.
Lastly, there were only two other minor things that didn't really fit well into any of the categories above. Separators in the bookmarks are needed to separate groups of bookmarks. I have hundreds if not a couple thousand bookmarks. When they were imported without any separators, it was a mess. Please add bookmark separators. Also, the auto spell check as you type was not working until I turned it off and on again. This may be just a minor bug and after resetting it, the feature seems to work fine.
Overall, it looks to be a big improvement over the previous versions but comes up short as being useful as a primary browser even if it were free.
Nice Job but missing key features. - Alexander_Clauss_696
>No automatic password saving for signing in on websitesThis feature is available in iCab 4, but it work slightly different than in other browsers mainly because of security reasons. In the iCab FAQ you'll find more information about this topic
>No direct inline keyword search.
This feature is also available, though not through the contextual menu. But you'll find this feature in the "Edit > Find" menu.
> Separators in the bookmarks are needed to separate groups of
You can add and create separators in the bookmarks window. Look into the contextual menu or customize the toolbar to add a button for this into the toolbar.
