<begin vent>Haviing used Windows Media Player 6.4 to 11 on Windows, I find the program, not the best content player, but simply a useful tool. For example, it is easier to watch a DVD on WMP than it is to launch PowerDVD or some other DVD-Specific player when I want to watch a moovie.
So... I needed WMP for MAC. Due to a hardware restriction, my system is locked at OSX.3.9 - I use a Digi 001 and I cannot use Pro Tools 7, I must neerds use Pro Tools 6.4: And PT 6.4 will nto install to OSX.4.x
And so for an editing issue, I installed WMP 9 for OSX.
Now I got a huge kick in the buttocks when I dragged an MP3 file intop the program and was promptly notified that Windows Media Player WILL NOT Play MP3s?
So WMP for MAC Locks Out all other non-WM media, is that it?
I want to know, is there a plugin that makes WMP 9 as functional as it was in Windows 2000 where it originated?
And... If there is some argooment going in in here, nobopdy can say "Quicktime is Better than WMP" or "WMP is better than Quicktime" -
Each program has specific uses, and Quicktime for Mac works exactly the same as QT for Windows.
But, the fact that WMP for Mac, doe NOT work the same way, is dissapointing.
In the same way, the Wiondows Virtual PC program, which is based on the MAC "Connectix" VPC program, is WAY less fucntional than the MAC version.
IS it some malicious programming thing, that WMP was programmed to be LESS fucntional for MACOS than for Windows?
Is this part of the "war" between Mac and Microsoft" What BUNK:
A program ought to work exactly the same, MAC of Windows. Pro tools works exactly the same weay in a Windows PC than it does on this G4.
Are there plugins for WMP on MACOS?

WMP only plays WM files? - taugust04
Windows Media Player on the Mac only plays unencrypted/DRM free Windows Media Files. Simple as that. Sometimes it doesn't even play those. It does not function like WMP for Windows. You're better off downloading Flip4Mac which is a Microsoft approved way of playing WMA/WMV in QuickTime. I believe it still works with 10.3.9.Reply to This
