There may have been a use for this before Leopard but now there isn't unless you want to change the color of the icon? In Leopard the iCal icon does update and has never not updated on my Mac.

No use for this since Leopard - psr--2008
I agree with the developer. I'm still on Tiger because my computer is too slow for Leopard. Hopefully, I'll rectify that after Macworld. And… I'll still be able to use iConiCal as the developer states (color changes, etc.) in Leopard.Sunday, January 06 2008 @ 06:01 AM PST

That may be true, but there are still a lot of 10.3 and 10.4 users out there, and iConiCal is aimed at these users. In addition, iConiCal allows Leopard to change the icon color if they wish.
