"Onyx, like many applications is just a GUI wrapper for any number of commands that anyone can type in and run in the terminal some comands are over 30 years old. Onyx's interface is in beta. What it actually is... trivial. How it does it... not new. What it looks like is where the creative programming comes in."
It's good software. Sure with code comes bugs but I'm starting to wonder if a few people downloaded the wrong version for their system. There are 5 different versions of Onyx, one for OS X 10.4.x, French Language Version, OS X 10.3.x, OS X 10.1 - 10.2.8, and the BETA.
It's not like *censored*tail, TinkerTool System, and other similar apps are doing anything different. Don't believe the hype. The location of the options may be different. The interface may look prettier but it's just the same old song. This particular tune is free. Because it's free doesn't mean it warrants no critique. I call 'em like I see 'em.
There are many applications that, based on their performance and features, should be called, "BETA" I mean c'mon Windows Vista is a Beta, but did Micro$atan call it that? Hell nah... and that's because it took 5 years to come out and it still isn't ready. So why on Earth would they tell everyone that it's still in Beta?
Point is that some developers attempt to be forthcoming and honest about their releases.
Software development is a work in progress. Don't get caught up in the words. If it hoses your system then it's time to complain, rant, and rave.
