Under Leopard I'm finding that BOINC is STILL not running as a nice process. Anyone else having the same experience?

Still not 'nice' - domo
I have not tried the latest revision, but the lack of niceness is certainly still the case with 5.10.30. It seems to be Leopard's fault, not BOINC's. While nice still affects how much processor a process gets (nice processes get less processor if there are also runnable non-nice processes), it's no longer the case that the processor clock is slowed when performance is set to "automatic" and only nice processes are runnable. Consequently, nice processes can now peg the processor at full clock speed, with the result that the fans run fast and noisily. (G5 iMac; your decibels may vary.) This means I can't run BOINC any more because the fan noise is too loud. I raised a bug report with Apple about this, only to have it closed on me for what I consider spurious reasons: it was claimed that the processor had never been throttled for nice processes. Perhaps somebody else could have a shot at raising a bug report for the same problem.Reply to This
