Well this fix to the security update didn't do anything for my problem.
CUPS (unix printing system) is STILL not loading on startup.
So if I want to print when starting up my computer, I have to open "Printer Setup Repair" a click to start cups, then all is well till the next restart or startup.
Before installing this update I repaired permissions, they were fine, then did the install through software update. Then repaired permissions again and there had to be a repair on
/Library/Application Support/Macromedia/Shockwave 10/Shockwave 10 Preferences
Maybe I'll just throw that application out, maybe I'll just throw everything out.
APPLE, you really screwed up bad this time and a few days before Christmas.
I don't have enough room to do an archive install unless I toss out some applications or just do a clean install and see if I can move my apps from a fresh clone, which I'll have to make first.
I could always restore from my 2 month old back up on the slave drive. What to do. Just what I wanted to do on my birthday, my daughters birthday and Christmas.
We have decided to move Christmas up to just before new years cause so much time has gone into this. Thanks APPLE, Just for that I'm not buying those 3 new G5's I was getting everyone for Christmas. Keep up the good work, MicroSoft should be very proud of you, jerks.

If you could care less, then you should probably work on that little bit that still remains. But if you COULDN'T care less, then it's clearly mutual.
BTW, don't even try that "young punks" thing, because age <> experience. However old you might be, doesn't qualify you as any more technically proficient, or that you should be listened to any more than anybody else. I know people who've been working with Macs since 1984 and they're only in their early 30s.
If you change your mind and want to buy those 3 new G5s, I know a great place where you can get them: 2005. They have plenty in stock there. And if you don't change your mind, I'm sure Apple is smarting from the loss of your 3 sales, at a time when their market share is booming.
You could actually turn the computers off for the next couple of days and actually spend it with your family. Y'know, just a thought. The computer doesn't *have* to come first unless you want it to. (And, yeah, right, with 3 shopping days left, you reckon you were actually planning to just wander down to a store, find exactly the right modesls and walk out with 3 computers? Wow, what a disappointing Christmas that would have been; a card that says "IOU 1 Mac".)
Clearly, because of some glitch (that nobody else seems to be experiencing), the most logical thing to do is abandon and discard all Apple products altogether and live in a world of Windows. Because that never happens there. Here, I'll help you pack them up, get you moving away from the platform as quickly as possible. Got everything? Excellent, well, have a great trip, don't hurry back too soon, kthxbai.
ObUpdate: worked great for me.

I'm a grandfather of four and my youngest daughter is in law school. The guys that started Intel are my high school buddies. The man that invented the Hard Drive is an old friend of mine, so are all the heads of many companies like HP, Apple, AshtonTate, SeaGate in Scotts Valley where I used to live next to the Smothers Brothers. I think I have the right to say what ever I want.Saturday, December 22 2007 @ 08:05 AM PST

Installing CUPS after OS X 10.3.x is more likely to hose your ability to print than to help. Admittedly it was very useful pre-OS X 10.4.x but not now... there are too many horror stories of people having to reinstall their OS after installing CUPS now since its built-in to the OS and the CUPS programmer works for Apple.Saturday, December 22 2007 @ 07:24 AM PST

All least some help, thank you.It looks like I will have to use superduper to clone to my slave drive, then erase the master and do a clean install of 10.4.
Then see if I can copy my apps to the fresh install and still have them working. I've never done any of this so crossing my fingers cause I have no idea where most of my software disks are.

I could care less if you young punks don't think my comments are helpful. I'm trying to fix what they screwed up. Maybe you could be helpful instead of limp wristing the no button.Reply to This
