ThinkFree Office Java Bug report

Feedback Type:  Troubleshooting Report

Contributed by: abreuder Tuesday, December 18 2007 @ 07:53 PM PST

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Over One Year

If you're running this version of ThinkFree Office in Mac OS 10.4.X, don't automatically install the JavaMacOS10.4Release 6 update. It appears that something in this update prevents ThinkFree from completely opening so all you get is one pull down menu with the Preferences, etc. Have reported problem to ThinkFree Support on 14 Dec 07, but have gotten no response so far. It does not appear that you can uninstall the Java update if you install it, nor can you re-install Java Release 5.

ThinkFree Office Java Bug report - FourthWorld

I can confirm your report. I've also written ThinkFree; we'll see if I get a reply any faster than you.

I was surprised that there was nothing at ThinkFree's Help site on this. Seems an obvious omission.

Sure wish I had seen your report before I installed the Java update. :(

ThinkFree Office Java Bug report - torottot

First; I think this is excellent softeware, and have used it happily for several months. However, I reported the same bug at december 21. The ThinkFree Support Team responded 5 days later, asking that I tried to reinnstall the software. I had of course already tried this, and said so. The next answer confirms the bug at hand, suggesting that I try to remove the latest Java installation. I am not very comfortable when it comes to modifying the Apple core updates, and have once again written to ask for more detailed instructions and an estimate of what other functions that might be affected by this approach. I´ll keep you updated on how this case evolves.

ThinkFree Office Java Bug report - torottot

This is todays response from ThinkFree:
"At this point, as a temporary solution, we are urging users to remove instances of Java while we work on finding a solution to this problem.
Another solution that I hesitated to recommended to users was to reinstall or restore their Operating System to a previous point before the problems ocurred with our applications because we understand that this method may be time consuming.

We are aware of this critical situation and are doing the best we can to create a solution to this problem.

Sincerely,
Thinkfree Support Team
