My Cube's HP PhotoSmart 7200 series all-in-one became erratic today, and after reinstalling the HP software (HP_Installer_PS7200_v9.0.dmg) an attempt to re-add the printer fails with a CUPS error:
server-error-service-unavailable
No printer.conf file is produced, and attempts to launch cupsd by hand fail with a
dyld: Symbol not found: _cupsFileRead
Referenced from: /usr/sbin/cupsd
Expected in: /usr/lib/libcups.2.dylib
The latest HP software (HP_Installer_PS7C7200_v9.7beta.dmg) won't even complete installation, with lots of lpstat crashes, presumably due to more errors in the CUPS library:
dyld: Symbol not found: __cupsSetLocale
Referenced from: /usr/bin/lpstat
Expected in: /usr/lib/libcups.2.dylib
Sounds like the Security Update is a big step back for me since I can no longer print (though the scanning works). Damn!

CUPS library problem? - WoodDMW
Mea culpa--I had installed (non-10.4 compatible) CUPS 1.3.0 months ago: it is scarcely surprising that something CUPS-related broke at the security update. Lesson: once you deviates from official Apple releases, the onus is on your to maintain what you've changed. For those in the same boat: the recent 1.3.5 recent release of CUPS DOES builds and installs easily and works fine with the Security Update--and either of the HP software releases plays well with the (CUPS 1.3.5 + Security Update 2007-009) combo. So: false alarm due to my carelessness

Great, thanks for the info. Now where can I find a binary install package for CUPS 1.3.5? I've tried cups.org and Google with no luck.Wednesday, December 19 2007 @ 05:20 PM PST

We all want the CUPS 1.3.5 installer but no one knows how to make it except for Apple who owns CUPS and the company (cups.org) that makes the cups open sore software, and both those f**king lazy asses won't do it. I wrote Apple a few emails telling them how pissed I was and many other people. The loud gear gets the grease. So feel free to *censored* up a storm to Apple.Friday, December 21 2007 @ 10:54 AM PST

Apple's page about this download mentions a number of CUPS issues addressed by the security update. If you haven't already, it might be worth having a look at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307179.Reply to This
