Interface design - ugh.

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: NO

Oh man, I tried the new version and the interface is grotesque. It takes up so much space, is ugly to look at, and the lack of defined buttons on the sidebar is disconcerting. My immediate reaction was to run back to version 3. I am really, really disappointed. My guess is they hired the person that designed Stacks to do the new interface!

Clicking on the buttons reveals a list of items that won't go away unless you click again. So if you go to the wrong button, you can't just let go of the mouse button, you have to actually click again to clear the screen.

This thing takes over my whole screen. Bad dog.

A longtime user.

Why Didn't You Contact the Developer First? - MAC_1984

Instead of lambasting the developer with a demoed star rating over a GUI that you question (I like the new GUI) why didn't you contact the developer? I have contacted the developer in the past, and he is more than willing to listen to what you have to say and consider changing matters or adding options.

Change your settings - St. Clair Software

Go to System Preferences -> Default Folder X. Click on the "Settings" button and then on the "Options" tab. Change "Toolbar style" to "Small floating window". Now it's small and hanging next to the dialog, like in DFX 3.

Oh - and the buttons... - St. Clair Software

The buttons work exactly like any other popup menu button in Mac OS X. Click and hold down the mouse button and the menu pops up, then goes away when you let go of the mouse button. If you click quickly and let go, the menu pops up and stays up until you click elsewhere. DFX doesn't change the semantics of menus or menu buttons in any way.

Well at least you can turn it off. That's not so bad.

Why shouldn't we complain about what we don't like on VersionTracker.

That's our right.

VersionTracker is the perfect place to comment on our likes and dislikes. Bug reports should go to the developer.

Personally, I find the new colour scheme ugly -- it brings to mind the black crepe that Victorians favoured when they were in mourning.

The functionality of the program is first rate, however.
