Come on people, the reason we use Macs is because THERE ARE NO VIRUSES. You do not need this software, it just clogs up your system worse than fatty food. Really, why would you spend money on antivirus for a Mac? If you're worried, use ClamXav. I have run Mac networks with upwards of 500 machines and never used antivirus. And guess what? I never had a problem because there are NO MAC VIRUSES.

The tired old argument about not wanting to pass on anything to Windows users is fair enough but let's face it, anyone who uses Windows deserves all the nightmarish hell that comes with it. You made your bed, you get a load of horrible nasties in it which steal your identity and eat your granny. That, or you make a sensible choice of platform in the first place.

P.S The first person to post a stupid link to a story about some non-event proof of concept rubbish that requires you to enter an admin password three times before it will even work gets a special bag of poo in the post.

On the contrary. My wife is a publicist (and a longtime Mac user). She takes receipt of MANY documents produced under Windows, some of which contained virii, and she has inadvertently passed those on to other Windows users, except when she was using anti-virus software. So the issue is not simply one of 'are there any virii for Macs', but can the Mac be a conduit for Windows nastiness... and the answer is, yes it can.

The point is that SHE is a Mac user. Let the folks who run Windows have the responsibility of protecting their systems and let them have to buy the bloated crap which is any Norton product.

I know, I've been a Windows user for ever! I've lived on my Mac since switching over 3 years ago, but I still have PC's as they are part of my studio set up. It's my responsibility to make sure that they are protected, and there are anti-virus apps like Avast! that are free, that are far better than that Norton garbage!

So sorry, no, it's not up to ANY Mac user to have to buy and run anti virus apps just so they can protect Windows users. The burden is on them!

Balls to Windows users... they made their choice, they can deal with the problems.

You're right. I made that "tired old argument" in an earlier post. But Windows is the reason this crapware exists in the first place.

Just a thought - MacOO7

You do realize that the very internet which allows you to post these comments is comprised of many computers and many of them are windows based. So if you unknowingly pass on a virus and it infects those computers you are affected as well. Not only that but so is everyone else. Just a thought.

Your post is horribly ignorant! To say in all CAPS that there are no Mac viruses is irresponsible at best!

I feel so sorry for your whopping 500 (so impressive) Mac users.
Post back here when you and your users do catch a virus and let us know how it goes.

To say that there are no viruses for ANY operating system is terribly ignorant and shows me very clearly that you do not know your trade at all.
There is and never will be an OS that is immune to viruses and other types malware.
You should find another job doing something less complicated.

Don't get me wrong, Symantec software for the Mac is and probably always will be total garbage. I am not endorsing it by any means. In fact I recommend staying far away from it.
But listening to this guy is likely just as bad.

Kiss my arse you 12 year old Yank unclefcker. In 2034 you will think of a funny response, but by that time, your reputation as a witless cnt with the brain of a spasticated slug will be 40 years old (and well deserved) and you will be powerless to change it. That, and you'll be sitting in a pool of your own shit. Just like you are now.

Just to reiterate, fck off and die you humourless shitstain.

OK, in all fairness your advice about ClamXav is solid.
But that's about all you said with any hint of intelligence.
