Existing users, 
mac the ripper is not at all the best program for ripping dvds.
just have a look at "handbrake", its much better; try it!
you'll get better quality and an mpeg version(good quality: 3GB) of your dvd (8gb)
so, i cannot recommend mac the ripper, though many do so.

HandBrake is not a DVD ripper. Though it can copy directly from disks, its documentation states that "[i]t does not crack the latest copy protection schemes hatched by the studios. It converts video from DVD (MPEG-2) to MPEG-4." For best results, HandBrake should be fed clean video_ts, ideally from your hard drive.
