This is a very well designed and well thought-out application. After upgrading my Mac and basically just archiving my iTunes off and moving them over to my new machine, I started to see duplications. Trying to manage this manually is just too much so I left it alone. When Leopard came, I upgraded my system but for some reason, my iTunes list was now 3x of what the actual song lists were. I had to go in and clean that up considerably and after realizing that this is really an impossible task manually, I looked for a solution such as scripts, plug-ins and other tools and after trying several others, I came across iDupe - wow, wish I had just started with this one.

iDupe takes a little getting used to. I started with my trial very cautiously and selected 10 different song tracks, all of which had at least 3 duplicates. Manually I could observe this few and monitor the tool. The "Report" tab is really awesome. Once you've had iDupe scan the selected songs for duplicates, you can review the log in the Report tab and if everything looks good, have iDupe remove the duplicates. Well, watching this manually and observing the entries in the "Report" tab pays off. It matched what I watched when the process occurred and only had to manually delete about 15 songs from the entire list because I had modified the information in those songs manually. After weeding out roughly 2/3rds of my lists (4500+ down to 1500) in about 30 minutes, I was really happy.

This is really a well designed and well built application with serious considerations of the process to carefully and properly remove duplicates. Its well worth the $8 Shareware fee!

I highly recommend this application to anyone who has duplicate entries in their iTunes library!
