Open the Terminal, it is in your Utilities folder which is in applications.

Type cd and then a space, then drag the mplayer folder onto the terminal window which will enter the path in the terminal. Then press enter.

Now type ./configure and wait for it to complete.

Then type make and wait for it to complete.

Then type make install and wait for it to complete.

Now that it is installed, you can close and reopen the Terminal and type mplayer for instructions.

To just play a movie, type mplayer, then a space, and then drag the movie file onto the terminal and press enter.

Thanks for the step-by-step...But I get an error

"Error: Cannot find header either inttypes.h or bitypes.h. There is no chance for compilation to succeed."

Anyways, I'll just get a pre-complied version with a GUI.

Thanks for the quick reply. ;-)
