This is really great. Simple, clean, and very effective. I also like that you can still have stacks in the dock, next to these "pseudo folders". So you can have it both ways.

One question: Is it possible to eliminate even "step 2" ? Once you drag a folder to Quay's window, it's obvious that you want to put it in the dock ...

There's no Apple-supported way of putting an icon into the Dock. I could add it to Dock's preferences and then kill and restart it; this has side-effects like also killing Dashboard and all widgets.

No, it's best left to the user to organize the Dock, at least until Apple publish a safe way of changing it.
