Otto the Responder. Cute. But...

I tried to sign up for the "free clix newsletter". I'm getting up there in age and I'd obviously already signed up sometime last year.
I got a really nasty message from "Otto", accusing me of data mining, whatever that is.
Then, when I missed the fact that Otto is really just an auto-responder, and (admittedly) stupidly responded to this hostile attack by a robot, I received two letters from two real human beings (well, at least it seemed like two). The first told me what was up with Otto, forgave me for being an idiot, and said it was okay, I was not data mining (whatever that is) and that they'd fix it up so's I got the free newsletter. Then, 20 minutes later, a Darth Vader type person wrote me, telling me that, "upon reflection", he'd decided to put me on the "banned" list, and he called me...get ready for this..."totally bats$#@". He said that I couldn't use Clix anymore, and that I should write a song about "clues" since I obviously didn't have one.
Lovely person, this. So I'll struggle along with the "bloatware" that he rejoices in trashing publicly (Onyx, LCC, etc). Seems to me that a person driven so easily to verbal attacks might, in a seething rage, miss that one line of code that could bring down my beloved Mac.
Ever talk with Joel Barriere, the designer of Onyx? He's a beautiful person and a gentleman. I'll take his bloatware any day!

jjjazzz... you got garbage mouthed also... - Ron L

jjjazzz... I see you got the incredibly rude, paranoid 'tech support' that I got also. I have literally never had any software developer respond so vehemently for absolutely no reason. I wouldn't use this no matter how good it is now. I double checked Ricky's site and now see that he has banned me from the entire site! Unbelievable. He must have a lot of time to work on his software since he can't have any friends acting like this.

What must have slipped your mind was to explain to the good people here why you were tossed out of the forum. For losing your temper and attacking others.

Must have been an innocent slip of your mind.

Otto the Responder. Cute. But... - rixstep

When she originally signed up for the newsletter years ago we welcomed her. Personally. Because of who she is. And when she signed up she saw the 'autoresponder'. Everyone does. It starts like this.

-----------------------------
Hello.

I'm Otto Responder. I'm almost human. It's my job to filter incoming mail. As you've just sent a message to me, take the time to read what I have to say. It should be worth your time and won't take long at all. Thank you.

1. If your message was not plain text and without attachments of any sort, I have discarded it. No one will ever read it.

2. If you attempted to subscribe or unsubscribe to a newsletter, know that you can only subscribe or unsubscribe with the address you've sent from.
-----------------------------
This is part of routine disclaimers we or anyone in this position needs. For obvious reasons.

OK - ready? Because for reasons we'll never know she decided she had to sign up again - and of course she got the same autoresponder again. And she decided to spit back - at an autoresponder! This is what she replied. Hold on.

-----------------------------

Uh, now what? I'm Jessica, at http://www.jessicawilliams.com. I use Mac Mail. It has that silly little flower attachment that I can't disable.

I don't know what you're talking about. Data mining? I'm a pianist and composer and business owner and I use Clix on my G5. I never expected such a nasty email.

Unsubscribe me, PLEASE. I'll use the bloatware you hate so much. I'm a 60 year old lady by the way.

And I resent your tone and your threats. It costs NOTHING to be nice. I do so much work to help people, and I give things away too, like free sheet music and free album downloads. Google me - JESSICA WILLIAMS, and see who I am. Then send me another evil little email. And I'm with Comcast.
