The description says:
"Mail Archiver sets out to help you with the storage of emails."
I've been using Apple Mail for about 6 years. It has done a fine job of storing my email. Spotlight does a fine job of finding messages when I need to. Not sure what Mail Archiver means by "cleaning your email" but I'm sure I don't need it. I've got less than 1GB of sent/saved/inbox/everything else email, so it's not like I need to reclaim that space considering I have 1.75TB of local storage.
What does this do that Mail doesn't already do? Or, is it really necessary?
20MB download seems a bit big too... This wouldn't be a RealBasic app would it?

This is the best e-mail archiving program that I've used. I have an enormous quantity of e-mails going back over several years that I've stored using this software. If I need anything from any of them, which I do from time to time, this software finds what I'm looking for WAY FASTER than spotlight. And, since my "Mail" program is no longer carrying such a huge database it's faster, too. If you're happy with spotlight, good on ya. If you are looking for a way to speed up "Mail", speed up your searches for old mail, and keep your "Mail" database clean, then this program is excellent.Friday, January 30 2009 @ 01:18 AM PST

Yes, you are missing something. In Tiger, when you get above certain thresholds, such as 15k messages in one of my mail boxes, things slow to a crawl in Mail. Is this fixed in Leopard?As for keeping a backup of your email that can be readily searched, Filemaker is as good as anything else -- and in a corporate environment, one needs to make backups for archival or Sarbanes Oxley compliance.
