Roxio Is Starting to Act Like Microsoft & Apple

Feedback Type:  Review

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: 1-6 months

Recommend Product: NO

I purchased Popcorn from Roxio. The software did work as described. However after my computer crashed six months later, Roxio would not allow me to download the software again. I wanted to use it on the same computer with the same license number. However, Roxio charges $5 for the ability to download the software again in the future (beyond three months) and I had not purchased this program.

It seems insane and "dark ages" for a company to do this. It cost them nothing for us to download it from their site. And, as long as it is being used on the same computer or with the same license number, I can see no reason to charge the fee.

I'd shop elsewhere.

Of course, there is always the possibility of BACKING UP your computer, and your purchased applications. Then you don't have to rely on Roxio or pay them money again for something you already purchased.

I don't quite get the point of giving the application one star because you failed to take precautions to preserve your purchases.

Give me a break. Charging for a download is worth zero stars. It is enough to prevent me from purchasing and enough to encourage me to spread the word this is not a company to purchase software from
