The interface and feature set are really a cut above all the competition (Devonthink, Eaglefiler etc). Unfortunately Together is a resource hog and for anything above a smallish collection is unusably slow. It's surprising for something that uses core data to demand so much of a system (100 cpu usage on a Core2Duo 2.166 with 3 gigs of Ram) and hopefully the programmer will trim some fat somewhere.
Also he's shooting himself in the foot with the name; try googling "together" - with or without "reinvented" - to see what I mean. If he wants people to be able to find reviews, comments and independent support/advice, he's going to have to come up with a more distinctive name.
Altogether a nice try, but I'll just have to keep hoping Devonthink 2.0 isn't vaporware.

Keep your stuff together and find it again.

KIT -> Together, huh? - S Harris
KIT was, of course, short for Keep It Together, which is what I meant by shortening the name. This meant some people typed it as KIT, K.I.T. or Keep It Together, so it ended up having three names.Google was smart enough to find KIT, but enter it into a site like VT and you'd get everything that included the letters 'kit'.
Given that I couldn't prevent (or resist myself) abbreviation the three word name, I decided to shorten it.

Oops, I managed to submit that last comment twice.Again, on the name, "Together" is climbing up Google's search pages now as links to my site are updated.
Version 2.0.2 of Together dramatically improves performance for importing and working with thousands of items.

Oops, I managed to submit that last comment twice.More like your post was yet another unwitting victim of VT's long-infamous post duplication bug that's apparently never going to be fixed. ;)
Thanks for the response. Simply KIT will always be my favorite name for the product. :)

Still running Tiger so I haven't tried Together but I agree with you about the new name. Maybe a large company like Apple can afford (hmm) to use common words like Spaces, Numbers, etc. as product names but it seems more beneficial for small, independent developers seeking wider recognition to choose more unique names that are easier search targets. Sure glad Philip Dow didn't rename Journlr when he considered doing that awhile back.In Reinvented Blog » Blog Archive » (Keep It) Together 2.0 Steve wrote:
I released version 2.0 of KIT today and it’s now called Together. I decided to shorten the name to make it easier for people to find.
Together is shorter than KIT? Nope. Easier to find? Seems a toss-up. Maybe he's right that more people are helped by this name change though it seems I'm outside that group. No worries. :)
