The previous version was fine. This version of Adobe Reader no longer opens, everytime I open it, it says plug ins are missing. I've installed and reinstalled. I've downloaded new versions of 8.1.1 - I've installed again and again. Safari manages to open up a PDF document for about 30 seconds, then crashes. PPC Mac Os 10.5.1. Couldn't get it to work when I was using Tiger 10.4.10 either. Tried the website, doesn't say anything useful.
Wouldn't recommend this version for PPCs. My Intel MacBookPro is fine.

I had the same problem. I followed your directions and that did it. Thank you sooo much. I use Adobe Reader all the time and was having to print everything if I wanted to read things. You've saved me paper, ink and my sanity!Friday, December 21 2007 @ 12:57 PM PST

BLESS YOU!!! I was having the same problem after downloading Adobe Reader 8.1.1. The solution of unchecking the Updater.acroplugin worked perfectly.Saturday, December 08 2007 @ 05:44 PM PST

This is not quite my problem: whenever I get to a site that offers a pdf, my Mac asks me which application I'd like to use to open the PDF but shows both Adobe Reader 1.1.1 and (Mac's) Preview in gray, i.e. unavailable for this task.Wednesday, December 19 2007 @ 10:40 AM PST

I had a similar and very annoying experience (crashes after only 15 seconds or when I tried to print, whichever came first) until I found what appears to be an easy fix. Try going into the Get Info box of Adobe Reader 8.x, expand the plug-ins list, and remove the Updater.acroplugin. The application actually worked when I just unchecked it, but after all this hassle I wanted to be sure the solution was permanent, so I hit the "remove" button.Reply to This
