Sad to say this - but what the heck was Apple thinking ??? Nothing at all I guess. Oh don't get me wrong this Leopard Server Admin Tools look quite nice and might be a real improvement over the old ones - BUT if you install this new Tools - let's say on your Support-MacBookPro (needs Leopard) THEY DO OVERWRITE YOUR OLD 10.4 TIGER TOOLS !!! The new 10.5 Tools DO NOT WORK with your existing 10.4. Servers ! And you cannot install the old Tiger Tools anymore on your Leopard Mac (also not the just released Server Admin Tools 10.4.11). By the way the new Leopard Server Admin is crashing. Apple Support told me I could partition my Mac and have an old 10.4.11 System next to my Leopard partition and boot from either one to be able to configure my old and new Servers concurrently... DEAR APPLE - what where You thinking - this smells terribly like a microsoftian approach to things - unbelievable ! Go FIGURE & DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT !!!
(otherwise this new Xserve with LeoServer is pretty nice and fast ;-)

I don't know if it's the result of an update (possibly the 10.4.11 one) but the 10.5 tools do now work with a 10.4 Server, at least to some extent:

"To administer a Mac OS X 10.4 Server-based server, you need either the Mac OS X 10.4 admin tools or the Mac OS X 10.5 admin tools (except DNS). The Mac OS X 10.4 admin tools only run on 10.4 systems. They do not run on previous or newer versions of Mac OS X.

"Note: Mac OS X 10.5 admin tools only work with Mac OS X Server 10.4.11 or later. Mac OS X 10.4 DNS service is not compatible with the Mac OS X 10.5 admin tools; to administer the DNS service you need the Mac OS X 10.4 admin tools on a Mac OS X 10.4 Mac. The Mac OS X 10.5 admin tools are limited to one share point for a given name when managing a 10.4.x server. This limitation does not apply to Mac OS X Server version 10.5 Leopard."
