I was excited to learn about Bento. But I was disappointed by the initial preview release. Bento does seems unable to store pdf documents as can Yojimbo and many other applications. Presumably this is a shortcoming that will be fixed. Since PDF is an integral part of the Mac OSX architecture, the omission seems a glaring. I'm looking for a simple database to replace Yojimbo where I store, track and search/view over 2,000 PDF documents. Unfortunately, Yojimbo is not yet sufficiently flexible in terms of how meta data are handled. Bento could fit the bill ... possibly.

There are two ways Bento handles PDF files. You can either save it in a Media field (through drag and drop), or use a File List.

With Media field, the PDF file can be saved in the database, but you won't be able to view the content.

With File List, you can view the content of the PDF file, but the file is not saved in Bento, it's a reference to the actual file on your hard drive.
