Why is the Intel version of this update 10.4.11 twice the size of the PPC version ??? Is this bloatware at it's worst ???
10.5 seems nice, but I do hope Apple decide to slim it down in 10.6 and make it FASTER and MORE EFFICIENT and less resource hungry than it is today !!! Or else the ability to turn off all the eye candy and features we don't use.. !!!!!
I have used Macs since System 6, and we always use to laugh at how much bloated Windows was and how resource hungry it was compared to the Macs back then....Mac OS X v 5 seems just as bloated these days...
Apple Mac OS X
Snow Leopard operating system.

why is this twice the size of the PPC update ??? - patchsmyle2
before making comments when you don't understand things here is some information to education yourself about.PPC based os does not include universal binary updated files. This means the update is "X" size. For Intel hardware, the updated files are Universal. This means BOTH PPC and Intel code. This is why it is double the size.
The irony, which is where you should be pointing your frustration, is that why does Apple include PPC and Intel code when the Intel 10.4.x will only boot on Intel hardware.
The answer to THAT, is if you need to run something in rosetta (PPC based program) all of the related files then must also run PPC (not intel) libraries and commands.
SO... Yes you need "twice" the update size for your computer to run.

why is this twice the size of the PPC update ??? - jspectre
who cares how big it is, it's an OS update. if you consider updating your OS "bloatware" then don't do it, and don't complain about problems and crashes.Reply to This
