What I'd really like is for Little Snitch to start identifying (and blocking if desired) the new generation of phone-home scripts which are bypassing Little Snitch altogether. Some quite sophisticated programmers have wised up and figured out how Little Snitch works and are defeating it. And I'm not talking about the relatively unsophisticated apps which merely add an "Allow" rule to your Little Snitch configuration file without your knowledge.
So, bottom line, don't automatically assume a piece of shareware (or even one commercial app I'm aware of) isn't phoning home and providing your IP and other info without your knowledge...Little Snitch isn't intercepting them all!!
A robust Google search will turn up a lot of data on the subject if you're interested in seeing how widespread Little Snitch bypassing has become of late.

I had not heard about this, and was skeptical, so I did a google search and found (to my surprise) the Objective Development Forum discussion of apps that bypass LS.http://forums.obdev.at/viewtopic.php?t=577
I'm a longtime LS user, and didn't even know there was an ObDev forum.

why not be more specific with regard to the applications that bypass LS? So the rest of us can be as illuminated as you are and make a decision about whether to buy the program or not?Reply to This
