Could not locate correct version to update

Feedback Type:  Review

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: NO

I double-clicked the installer, and it told me to quit my open MS apps. I did and then clicked the Continue button on the Installer dialog. It then asked for my administrator password, which I supplied. I then authenticated itself and then started searching for apps to update. A few seconds later, I receive a dialog that states the following:

The installer could not located the correct version of the software required to install this update. See the Read Me file included with this installer to determine if your software meets the requirements for this update.

Of course, a quick read of the Read Me shows that I do indeed have the correct software (bought and paid for, mind you) for this update. And yet, this stupid updater cannot find it.

To illustrate just HOW stupid this updater is, I quit the updater, launched Word (the app this updater is supposed to update), then launched the Updater again. The updater immediately found that Word was running and told me that I first had to quit it. I did and yet the update gave me that silly "cannot located correct version" dialog again. I have the correct version, so I don't see what else could be wrong here except faulty MS programming. And yes, I've installed all other updates to Office 2004 in the past WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM AT ALL! So this is the first time I've been hit with something like this from MS.

The About box in Word says my version is 11.3.5 (070413).

Could not locate correct version to update - NickCollingridge

My guess would be that you haven't run all the updaters in order to bring Word up to the version number needed to run the latest updater. I can't tell you what the version number for Word should be prior to the latest update as they don't always update the application when the updates are run, so the only way to find this out would be to get an old version and progressively run the updates, checking the version number after each one. But 11.3.5 sounds as if it's probably too old to be the result of all the recent updaters before this one.

You have version 11.3.5. You must run all of the updaters - .6, .7 and .8 before you can use this one. That info is in the docs that come with every version download.

You need to update to 11.3.8 first, before the latest updater will work. You have a few updates to download first. Auto updater should download the needed updates in order....might have to manually dl them though.
