Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: NO

First of all, it's donation NAGWARE -- you are presented with a dialog that you must wait to dismiss whenever you use it.

Second of all, you need to save a webloc to the desktop first, like by dragging the blue sphere from Safari, THEN drag that to the app icon.

Third, the icon is kind of hard to hit for a droplet... it is small, with a lot of mask. Would be better if it was in a square.

Fourth, it took several MINUTES for the screenshot I took of this page in Versiontracker to appear on the desktop. Seriously, I thought the thing didn't work , since there is no UI or progress indicator. It finally appeared minutes later. YMMV.

I see not reason to use this, much less donate for it when other alternatives like Paparazzi exist and have more features and a real UI.

Not very useful - Joe_Pagliaro

DropImageURL is part of my Utilities suite of software, and a single donation unocks all software here:

http://www.limit-point.com/Utilities.html

with unlimited free upgrades to all.

Since the minimum donation is $10, I don't think that's asking much. It's not nagware, but it is isn't freeware either. I bet you don't work for free either.

As for how to use the program: yes, it accepts weblocs dropped on it. However there are three other ways to activate the program for a given URL:

1) You can drag the URL right out of the web location text field onto the Dock icon.

2) You can use the Dock menu command "Image Browser URL" which supports all the common browsers on the Mac: Safari, FireFox, Camino and OmniWeb etc. (namely browsers which support AppleScript.)

3) You can use the Services menu in any application to image the URL in the current text selection.

As for speed of imaging, that will depend on your computer of course, but the software uses WebKit, which is the same software used by Safari, and is usually noted as being very fast as well as Quickitme for outputing the image in various formats.

Finally, the program does have a user interface in the form of a system preference pane where you can specify various options.
