I am in no way accusing Ambrosia of this, but I had a similar complaint - being required to get a new registration code each time I reinstalled the OS, had repairs, etc. - with PixelNews. The last time I was forced to request a new code - which did not "self-update" as Ambrosia has been kind to enable its software to do - the developer initially could not find my information where ever he had stored it. I sent qualifying information and he was eventually able to locate my registration. He said he would get back to me so the software would work again.I had not had the software, for which I paid $25.00, for quite a year and I never heard another word from the man! I contacted the financial administrator, Kagi, who said basically I should be satisfied I had been able to use the program for 11 months, that the program did not belong to me and I had only been renting it any way. Although I could no longer use PixelNews at all, Kagi refused to refund one iota of my payment .I have absolutely no idea what happened to the PixelNews (iNews) developer but he never said another mumbling word. Kagi said he never responded to them either. While I do I hope the developer is healthy, I am no fan of such software registration renewal. Honest consumers can easily be penalized by the dishonest. Piracy must be really sophisticated with all these 100 trillion methods developers have for protecting the software and aggravating users who have paid (and I for one did not know about serializer sites, or whatever they are, until reading Ambrosia's response to mediaVinci.)Did I get the impression KAGI is resoundingly greedy, last in class, uninterested in doing the right thing by consumers, and go to extreme lengths to avoid them? Do I feel the hateful KAGI witch on the other end of the phone should be hereafter and forever embraced by the flames of Hell? A RESOUNDING 'YES.'Do I think Kagi even understands what shareware is? UHHH...NO!So, right now, I do not think programs that need coddling with new registration codes at whatever the developer's whim might be may be efficacious to program supporters.I understand developers are trying to protect themselves but who was there to protect me?
