Lost my files!

Feedback Type:  Review

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

I tried using this to compact a sparse disk image. It went through the process, freed up 10 gigs, and then hung on "Finishing". The resulting file was unmountable, and I've lost all the content as a result.

After discussing these issues with the user, it was pointed out that the process did not lock up on "Finishing", but actually finished the operation (with the "Finishing" status still displayed).

The user was able to use "Data Rescue II" to recover files from the image after the mishap.

It is recommended that all users backup information before performing operations on that data (like the compacting of large disk images). As sparse images are used over time (enlarging/shrinking, and having files added/removed), the integrity of the image may degrade.

After testing with many different sized sparse images to verify functionlity, I have found that the hdiutil command used by FreeDMG is working normally when used to compress disk images.
