Not that useful to me

Feedback Type:  Commentary

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: YES

Some of the new features are nice, but I won't upgrade to 4.8. It seems a bit slower than previous versions. If I had an Intel Mac, perhaps this wouldn't be an issue for me. Also, this new version doesn't work with Shapeshifter as well it did in previous versions. The toolbar, in particular, remains that drab gray. I've been tired of that drab gray color since it began. How odd that Mac fans from way back when were delighted to move from their black and white Macs to color; and now everything is in gray.

Don't use Shapeshifter. It is a nasty hack.

As for the use of gray—to each his own. Apple actually studies these things from a human factors point of view (apparently unlike some of its competitors which apparently let its programmers design the interface). The use of bright and saturated colors, unless in extreme moderation, is fatiguing.

I've never had a problem with Shapeshifter or APE, although I recognize that others report such things. As for color fatigue, as you suggest, to each his own. It just would be nice to have options for those of us who don't fall in the norm.

I would emphasize that PathFinder is a fantastic program. I'm just disatisfied with some of the new aspects of this current version. But for the features it offers, it is more than well worth the money. And in fairness, these guys could easily have justified an upgrade fee. The fact that they didn't speaks volumes for their integrity, and it is refreshing compared to what some developers do.
