I had to do a restore with many restarts of the iPhone and iTunes to get this update installed, likely due to AppTapp, etc.
Why in the world does iTunes not sync your photos or at least back them up automatically?! I was VERY disappointed to see that all my photos and emails were gone after the restore, and never made it to the Mac!
Apple, please make iTunes sync or at least BACKUP EVERYTHING which is user data/media on the iPhone -- at least give us the OPTION to do so! Apparently we REALLY need Time Machine for iPhone!

No, the photo syncing is not automatic, it has to be setup separately (stupid!). The email account was on the iPhone ONLY, and is not able to be synced to the Mac through the preferences you reference. The only mail accounts listed in iTunes are ones already on your computer -- it does NOT list ones ONLY on your iPhone. *sigh* :-(Thursday, September 27 2007 @ 03:54 PM PDT

SORRY but DUH!!!!! 3rd party hacks!! Restore phone to 1.0.2 before updating to 1.1.1, Only if you think you might have issues. iTunes will do a complete backup of the phone then reinstall them after the restore. You will be prompted to do so. Even Photos that are not in "Photo" icon but was used for a caller.. WILL BE BACKED UP AND RESTORED!!!!!!! Passwords not for Wi-Fi.. ALSO, ringtones, not hacks, returned to default.. EVERYTHING ELSE WAS PERFECTLY FINE!!!! a.k.a. iTunes did full backup of everything and restored to 1.0.2 then restored ALL INFO. Like I never restored! I only restored incase Installer.app screwed with 1.1.1 upgrade and made brick/paperweight..Thursday, September 27 2007 @ 06:52 PM PDT

iPhoto is what you use to pull photos off your iPhone (backing them up in the process).iTunes WILL sync your mail accounts, IF you turn it on AND select which accounts you want to sync. Look in the Info tab.
