Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Have Not Tried

Recommend Product: NO

I'm still using 4.0.1 and it works just fine. Apple store does not work in the country where I live so who cares what version is out here so long as it plays music without the bloat in the current version.

re Still on version 4 - balancedview

Hi,
Hey, its OK to be using an older version.
FYI, in my own list of the different iTunes versions, the ones that I have used over the years, I keep track of which are the 'stable-works-well' versions. (based on my opinion and personal experience as well as tracking posted comments and articles)
My list shows that for iTunes 4.x, if you wanted to update somewhat, the major features of newer versions (besides the usual addition of bugfixes here and there).
- v4.1 adds iPod sync of on-the-go playlists
-v4.5 added print CD jewel case lists
-v4.7 last ver 4.x (I think) that you can still get direct from Apple. Added duplicate song remover feature.
-v4.7.1 was a bugfix version, I used for a long time on Jaguar and Panther.
- v4.9 - added podcasts. (ver 4.8 added contact and calendars on iPod.) I used ver 4.9 for quite a while on Panther also.

Some of the older versions you can find at places like oldapps.com or oldversions.com.

And of course, if you decide to update somewhat, do be sure to save your previous 4.0.1 iTunes and installer -- just in case. And as I always recommend to updaters: run the disk utility to do disk repair and permissions repair.

Still on 4.0.1 - MatrixPT

Thanks for this comment! Last week I went back to iTunes 5.0.1 and haven't been this happy in a long time! I didn't bother tracking down an old v4, but seem to remember it was actually a bit faster and snappier than v5.0.1, so I might go and find it now.

My friend just bought a new iPod Nano and was heartbroken to find it requires OS10.4.8. He still uses 10.3.9 (network file searching is impossible with OS 10.4) so he can't use his iPod with his 3 year old Mac!! What's he using instead? His Windows XP computer! Good work Apple (NOT!)
