I backed up the old version just in case and sure enough 7.4.2 kills the MakeiPhoneRingtone ringtones! I will stick with 7.4.2 for now, but 7.4.1 is ready if I decide to go back.
FYI, I had issues with iTunes 7.4.1 quitting when using the iTunes Store. I turned off Little Snitch 1.2.4 and the issue went away. I will leave it off for now.

Get iToner. I really doubt Apple will make any attempts to make this app obsolete, since it works outside of ITunes and requires a separate sync. Not to mention the fact that the ringtones on iTunes are rather bleak. I mean, come on....Aretha Franklin, 50 Cent and a few age-old country-western songs?I like to find ring tones that are somewhat related to the people who call me. The ringtone for my boss, for example, is Kelly Osborne's Shut Up. My daughter makes a grand entrance with Beethoven's 5th, and my friend Kayla is Eric Claptons's Layla (close enough), which is only available in the unplugged version on iTunes. The first isn't available on iTunes, the second is in the public domain, and I prefer the plugged version of the third. iToner lets me use what I want to use.
