What can I say? Not much has changed with Unison over the past three years or so. They keep rolling out new versions and the old problems still persist.
Header downloading and post searching is still gratingly sluggish, and opening groups with a high post counts usually ends in a crash.
Essentially, the entire program has the carriage in front of the horse, as it makes no difference how simple you make downloading files, if you can't get the headers to begin with. This is going to have to change if Unison is to survive.

I have to agree with this. Unison looks great and does the simple things fine but it doesn't cope well with large number of headers and AFAICT doesn't have any ability to d/l headers by date (or any other criteria). Opening a new group with 15m messages will take a very long time and I just have to hope that the files posted yesterday appear at some indeterminate time in the future.Searching, grouping and threading all happen very slowly on my MBP in large groups. I think there is still quite a lot of room for improvement.
