Why the Internet?

Feedback Type:  Commentary

Contributed by: MasterBlaster Wednesday, September 05 2007 @ 07:41 PM PDT

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: NO

The program doesn't seem to open its preferences window unless it's given access to the Internet. I'm not saying the developer is malicious, but this is a potential security risk that I'm unwilling to take.

Why the Internet? - jmayer

i'm the developer and i can tell you that the only functions accessing the net are the e-mail notification and the update check (which can be turned off). this is easily verifiable using the source code.
if you really can't open the preferences window there is something strange going on and you should contact me so this issue can be resolved.

No Unannounced Network Access Here... - RRyu

I'm not the developer, but I just tried turning off my network entirely and the prefs still open just fine (this is with 2.3.2). Firing up LlittleSnitch confirms that it doesn't initiate any network connections when launched or opening the prefs--just when checking for updates when instructed to do so.
