The biggest quibble I have with the new Eudora is that it did a lousy job importing mail from the old program. I got all my mailboxes but there was rarely more than one message in any of them. My Eudora Nicknames, on the other hand, came in pretty well. As for the shock of the new, well, this version does jump Eudora forward over about ten years of neglected development. It looks to me to be a good effort to modernize the old lady and I for one appreciate the effort. Naturally, this being a beta, there are plenty of issues I'm sure I've only begun to discover. If you haven't used another e-mail application besides Eudora, this one will take some getting used to. It retains some of the unique features of the classic Eudora, like the menu bar icons, but in most respects is a modern e-mail client more like Apple Mail or, obviously, Thunderbird. Personally, I welcome the upgrade and wish the developers all the best. But they've got to fix that mail import bug PDQ. For many people it will most certainly be a deal breaker. Who wants to start adding new messages to mailboxes you will only have to reimport later, thus loosing all your new stuff. Yuck! If it cannot import mail properly there's no reason to expect it will ever be able to merge the new with the old. For this reason, I'm not going to switch to the new version just yet. But it's nice to be able to give it a look-see.

I switched to Mail in the OS and I fear I shall never return to Eudora. After using Eudora from version one until a month ago I feel that is would take a leap of improvements to get me to switch. My only two faults with mail is Command M does not check mail and account checking time is global not tie to individual accounts.
