Unlike iPhoto or iWeb, for example, most new users could not simply jump into iMovie and produce good results. With the new version of iMovie they can. I have no doubt that many of the missing features will be added to this version of iMovie over time, but even as it stands it's a joy to use.

iPhoto has been improved nicely as well. The standouts are the new events which make sorting your photos much, much easier and the additional printing options.
