"Note:

No Mac OS X Binary.. - A. Nony Mouse

The problem with compiling your new CUPS distro is in the old configuration files. They are not compatible it seems. A sign of this is that once the new CUPS is installed the Printer Sharing appears stuck in the ON position which it is not in reality. The fix for that is to log into CUPS and click the Manage Server button and then Edit Configuration file. You'll see a bit of code which is in disarray. (or it seems) Click the button to use the DEFAULT CONFIGURATION FILE and the code is replaced. Click SAVE CHANGES and your GUI will be operational again.

ownership status - balancedview

Published in MacWorld July 12 (with most of that text taken straight from the CUPS news articles pages.

"The Common UNIX Printing System (CUPS) has been part of Mac OS X since Jaguar (Mac OS X v10.2) was released. Now CUPS is officially part of Apple, according to CUPS creator Michael R. Sweet.

“In February of 2007, Apple Inc. acquired ownership the CUPS source code and hired me (Michael R Sweet), the creator of CUPS,” said Sweet in a blog post.

Although Apple now owns the source code, CUPS will remain an open-source project available for UNIX and other operating systems under a GPL2/LGPL2 license, according to Sweet. Sweet revealed the news on the CUPS Web site this week."

No Mac OS X Binary.. - John Sawyer

"CUPS 1.3.x is not fully compatible with Mac OS X 10.4.x"

So why does the Operating System Requirements section list OS 10.4, for both PPC and Intel?

Can anyone translate exactly what this means? The implications, workarounds, etc.? Should people running OS 10.4.x not install this release version of CUPS 1.3.0?

No Mac OS X Binary.. - MeV

I installed the packaged binary and the admin stuff did NOT work as mentioned here. I re-installed 1.2.12 which I'd had installed before. Works just fine. Looks like with Apple taking over this code, I'm going to hold off until they release CUPS in an update from now on.

No Mac OS X Binary.. - m-bomb

How do you "log in" to CUPS on your average, everyday mac? And now that the binaries seem to have been pulled from the link, can anyone tell me how to compile it?
