I use this all the time but it needs an update to work in scripts of current iTunes. Any updates on the way?

Right, it needs an update. In the meantime, make an alias of the iTunes-LAME Encoder from your iTunes Scripts folder. Click it whenever you need to activate and it will start the encoding/import in iTunes.
