Parallels fell over...

Feedback Type:  Review

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: 1-6 months

Recommend Product: NO

I have used Parallels for about 4 months and while it is EXTREMELY slow, I have been able to use it. Maybe they should get multi-core recognization working!!! I came to use it after having it updated recently, to give a presentation to 300 people and watched the screen that said "Please wait while virtual machine resumes." That happened for 15 agonizing minutes trying to make small talk. I eventually gave up! Something that makes me look like an idiot doesn't get my vote.
Shame.

Parallels fell over... - mike.leboeuf

I have been using it since last year when I got a MacBook Pro and it launches literally in seconds and runs Windows as fast as any laptop PC. I use it on an iMac at work and it runs just as quick there.

I would guess you don't have adequate RAM on the computer you are using. Parallels and OS X do not share memory so you must have at least 2 Gis of RAm on your Mac. 1 gig of RAM for OS X and 1 free Gig of RAM allocated to Parallels.

Parallels by default suspends on application quit. Change the preferences to shutdown on application quit (Parallels Desktop > Preferences . General > On Application Quit > Shutdown. Shutting down properly or even just quitting then will cause the virtual machine to reboot on next launch. That is by far the best way to improve performance and stability.

Parallels fell over... - q_here

The only time I've had Parallel's drag it's heels after being "in suspended mode" is when it wakes and the network that it had been connected to is no longer there.

I suggest you SHUTDOWN Windows before changing location. Open Windows before your presentation and let it realise it's "somewhere else". Why do I remember and advert that had a PC (trying) to give a presentation and someone cries out "Get a Mac!".
