If you have OS 10.3, use Automatic Update then click the 'Update' button when asked, Adium will not restart. It will install the new version 1.1 which is completely incompatible with 10.3.

I got stung using the auto-update feature (which gives NO warning that 10.4 is now needed) and was stuck without Adium all day until I had access to a faster broadband connection to re-download the old version.

NOT HAPPY! Spotlight renders my entire workflow impossible so I can't use 10.4, therefore I won't be able to use any new versions of Adium (unless they release a 10.3 version.)

I'm also not happy with Apple for designing such a p*sspoor system whereby a 10.4 application will simply crash or bomb rather than bringing up a 'Sorry, this application requires 10.4' dialogue box - As a computer consultant, I've wasted many days being called out to fix software that wasn't broken, somebody had just unknowingly updated to a 10.4-only version and weren't even given a warning dialogue box or any indications as to why their software simply stopped working. Even Windows gives you a warning saying 'This software requires Windows XP/2000' if you try to install something new on Win98. The Mac OS is going so terribly backwards with these stupid issues, I worry we'll all be using Windows in five years time.
