Does not work with Magellan 210

Feedback Type:  Review

Contributed by: zmittie Thursday, August 09 2007 @ 02:12 PM PDT

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

I have a Magellan 210 and a PowerBook G4. HoudahGPS is not able to do anything with the track log files that come from the 210 nor is it able to connect to the 210 via USB.

Points for stability, the app handled the failure gracefully. The price is right. Ease of use is severely hamper by an ugly and unintuitive UI and the complete absence of any help. However, if the software worked and the UI was intuitive, the lack of help would be a non-issue.

Magellan 210 support - Houdah Software

HoudahGPS supports Magellan devices with an USB connector. The Explorist 210 should be supported. I do however not have one at hand for testing.

Can you connect to your device using other GPSBabel based software?

BTW, how can a single-button interface not be intuitive?

Magellan 210 support - zmittie

LoadMyTracks is able to translate the file without a problem. I didn't look much beyond that.

The interface is not intuitive because you cannot figure out how to accomplish the intended task with given controls. HoudahGPS only has one button but it took me 15 minutes to finally decide that HoudahGPS does not work with my device. And that was a guess. HoudahGPS interface provided no useful information. There's a lot more to user interface than just the controls that you provide.

HoudahGeo works great. I've already paid for that one.

Yeah. That's what I thought. There is FAR more to the HoudahGPS user interface than "one button". That was rather disingenuous.

Magellan 210 support - adf12

When I'm asked to select Device Type, Port, and Name, I put:

Type = Magellan
Port = USB

and the system gives me:

Name = usb:

What should I put after the usb:

for it to work?

Thanks
