Doesn't work
Feedback Type: Review
Contributed by: Bill Dawson Tuesday, August 07 2007 @ 07:40 PM PDT
Product Platform: MacOSX
Used Product For: Less than a month
After a long arduous install, the installer replied "Zimlets not installed."
Attempting to launch the "application" launches Safari which cannot find "http://localhost:7633/zimbra/mail". No kidding? I can't find it either.
No wonder there's no reviews here. There is nothing to review.

Yes, well that'll probably be because this is the desktop client for a Zimbra server. You are running are Zimbra server, I take it?Sunday, April 13 2008 @ 11:00 AM PDT

The description says it as an offline client. Given that it's trying to connect to localhost, i'd say you could probably get away with never running a Zimbra server ... if you just wanted to see what it looked like.Tuesday, April 15 2008 @ 05:59 PM PDT

I suspect the problem was down to installing it on a PowerPC Mac which is not supported by the Zimbra Desktop Client (only Intel Macs are supported). However the installer broke practically every possible rule of a Mac installer, including failing to check the platform before allowing the install.I officially reported as bugs several issues with the installer, and I believe the latest version now fixes most of those issues.
Still, the woeful quality of the installer did not inspire confidence in the quality of the rest of their software.

How can an application using Ajax and Web 2.0 tech actually require Intel, particularly when it's run through a web browser? It's like requiring an Intel processor to access Yahoo Mail.
That's just plan shoddy development, and there's no excuse.
