works fine for Windows Xp

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

The main problem I have with fusion is a lack of a true floppy drive a:

I cannot figure out how to load older os's that must use drive a: to boot from and load. (w95 w98 dos)

They use image files but provide no image maker..... but even with an image... so what ? Once dos is loaded I still need to stick a floppy in to load stuff but there really is no provision for this.

I thought my usb floppy drive would act as drive a: in the virtual machine but it does not.

So for XP its no trouble but for older os's it's just impossible to set up.

works fine for Windows Xp - sparcdr

Since all Macs for many years have not came with floppy drives, I'm assuming you're using a USB floppy drive. You just need to run DIsk Utility from Finder -> Tools -> Utilities and click the floppy drive and file -> New Disk Image from Folder should work if you have command.com and all of the .sys files, etc. Otherwise a direct copy can be done by using Terminal from Utilities and the command dd if=/dev/fd0 of=Image.img then load the .img as a floppy. Parallels Desktop can read the fdd images at least, haven't tried VMware as I don't have a USB floppy, nor do I need floppy. Search for "QEmu OS X floppy image fdd" for more instructions.

Thanx for the tip. I have a usb floppy drive, and I was able to create an image in Terminal under Mac OS 10.4.9 using the following commands: "diskutil unmount /dev/disk1" "dd if=/dev/disk1 of=myfloppy.img".

Just go to bootdisk.com and you can get floppy and cd images there for most windows versions.
