what really bugs me about this app is that due to conversion the id-tag-information gets lost. after converting a bunch of mp3s into aiff (normalized to 0 db - that's why i used this app!), i had to type title, album, artist etc. manually into i-tunes, which was a pain in the a**...

Actually there is. The way iTunes adds metadata to AIFF files is to include an 'ID3 ' data chunk which contains metadata as an id3 tag. Amadeus Pro (of which I am the developer) is an example of another application that can read and write metadata from / to AIFF files in this way.Tuesday, August 21 2007 @ 06:43 AM PDT

Why use Sound Converter to convert MP3s to AIFF, then import the AIFF into iTunes? You can use iTunes to import the MP3s, then convert the MP3s to AIFF. To do that, set iTunes' importing preferences to AIFF. Import the MP3s, select them, and choose "Convert to AIFF" in the Advanced menu.Tuesday, July 24 2007 @ 11:13 PM PDT

yeah, i know i-tunes can convert mp3 into aiff. but what i-tunes cannot do is to normalize to 0 db. some mp3s have a pretty low peak-level, which is kind of annoying when it comes to burning a cd. on one hand i like burning cd-compilations with i-tunes, because i-tunes keeps reminding the tracklist, but on the other hand, you have to turn your stereo really loud, to enjoy your recording...Friday, July 27 2007 @ 07:35 AM PDT

It is not a problem with the app. AIFF files do not contain meta-data.There is no place in an AIFF to put the tags.
