Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Over One Year

Recommend Product: NO

I do not appreciate spyware on my Mac. Little Snitch told me that this was trying to phone home for some reason. There is no reason whatsoever for text editing software to do this without my consent. I expect this from Windows products not Macintosh ones.

Most Mac software has automatic update checking built in, and BBEdit is no exception. You can control this in the "Application" preferences.

I had the automatic updates turned off.

Uh no. Sorry. I dunno what you did, but BBEdit only phones home for update checks. Little Snitch is as quiet as can be provided update checks are turned off.

Frankly, if you have a beef with this kinda thing, it would make a whole lot more sense to contact the developers rather than giving an inaccurate, paranoid review which would only serve to put off those legitimately interested in the product....

I've been using BBEdit for nearly a decade and it's never "phoned home" for anything other than the optional software update check mentioned above.

You should do a little more research before making wild accusations.

Thanks. BBEdit called spyware. Made me giggle. The whole program is a productivity Trojan. You have been warned.
