Existing users, 
If you open ShapeShifter (by Unsanity) go to exclude and choose iTunes.
I did this and the new iTunes started up without a hiccup. I hope this helps.
If any of you are experiencing this without having Shapeshifter installed,
I'll suspect that it's another prefernce in conflict. Best of luck all... once again...
