iTunes 7.3.1 won't startup at all - prairiedog
followed your instructions one by one the permissions were wrong as originally installed. I corrected them per your instructions. icon now bounces three times :-)also performed the following.
Removed com.apple.iTunes.plist (from ~/Library/Preferences)
/System/Library/Extensions/ApplemobileDevice.kext
/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.usbmuxd.plist
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DeviceLink.framework
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework
/System/Library/SynsServices/Schemas/Bookmarks.syncschema
as outlined in two fixes at Mac FixIT, Restart iMac and then iTunes 7.3.1, still will not start. I think I'll try reinstalling iTunes 7.2 next. Thanks for your suggestions.

Do you have Shapeshifter? If you do, it's the culprit. Just load the Shapeshifter system preference pane and choose the "exclude" tab. Have it find iTunes and exclude it and you'll be back in action. The only trouble will be that your interface will return to Aqua whenever iTunes is in the front. If you want continuous theme GUI presentation you'll need to revert to 7.2 which you can pick up here:http://mac.oldapps.com/
Best of luck!

Try repairing permissions and see if that helps. Here is the path: Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities/Disk UtilityOpen Disk Utility, click on your hard disk and then click Verify Disk Permissions. If it finds any problems (if they differ), click Repair Disk Permissions.
Also, try restarting and see if that helps.
I downloaded and Installed the iTunes 7.3.1 update via Software Update on a PPC iMac G5 and it starts up fine.
Good luck!
