I've downloaded both what Adobe calls the Intel and the PPC versions (as I have both computer styles around. When the Intel expands it produces an installer with "UB" (universal binary) in the name.
Question: Doesn't UB imply it works on BOTH Intel and PPC computers?
Why would I want to keep both installers around if I can use the UB one for both Intel and PPC Macs?
While not listed the UB (Intel) specs most likely require Mac OS X 10.4.x, which all my macs already run. (Why Adobe's Flash download page only gives required specs for the PPC one is a mystery to me...)
Thanks

QUESTION: Universal Binary offered - why not use for PPCs? - Soren0
I always download the Universal Binary version of an application when one is available. In the case of Adobe Flash Player, I just downloaded the UB version. I'm on a PPC Mac and using Mac OS 10.4.10.
I don't know why Adobe offers both versions, PPC and UB. I think it could be for PPC machines who have an operating system such as 10.3 10.2 or 10.1
I hope this helps.

That is why. Flash is not ordinary thing, it is downloaded/installed by near a billon people. Adobe tries to save both users and their bandwidth.Wednesday, July 11 2007 @ 11:29 AM PDT

I like the idea of not having the xtra "stuff" for intel macs on my PPC. Now if there was a way to delete the xtra stuff it would be no problem.Thursday, July 12 2007 @ 03:03 AM PDT

If you have an Intel and a PPC machine, then it is not necessary to keep both. As the majority of the Mac installed base is still PPC, and as the PPC installer is roughly 1/3 the size of the universal binary installer, I'm sure that's why Adobe gives you the option of downloading either one.To answer your other question, the only version of OS X that runs on Intel Macs is 10.4. There is no need to list that as a requirement since you must already be on 10.4 if you're on Intel.
