Not as bad as Reunion - mikegraham8

Your right, but that is still a sad commentary for a platform as elegant and as useful as the Macintosh. I am an IT manager for a company filled with Windows PCs and I rejoice at night when I come home to my iMac and MacBook.
However, when it comes to genealogy software for the platform, the choices are limited to MacFamilyTree and Reunion. Both have their pitfalls. MacFamilyTree is the better of the two by a minuscule amount. Both operate slowly to the point of being unusable if you have more than half a dozen generations to work with (I have traced several branches of my family and am now standing at almost 70,000 individuals). Both have archaic looking interfaces and both want to write directly to the GEDCOM file.
Sadly, I have been resigned to using an old Windows PC for working with my family tree because Family Tree Maker for the Windows platform outperforms both. I hate having to switch back and forth between platforms for the usability of one specific type of program. I am also not real happy at having about $120 worth of unusable software.

Not as bad as Reunion - i_gaucho

There are actually many more choices than just Reunion and MacFamilyTree. There are also iFamily for Tiger, Osk, and GEDitCOM that are also frequently updated. I haven't tried any of the three, but iFamily looks to be excellent and is kind of the up-and-coming new kid. I'm sure there are many others too. I may take a more serious look at it when it comes time to upgrade MFT.

I personally purchased MFT a couple years ago because it was about the only geneology software for the Mac that I was aware of at the time and Reunion was far too expensive for me. MFT was much less expensive a couple years ago, but Only Mac has added some great features and made a serious overhaul of the UI since that make it worth the price. I think it's a great value and it's a pretty darn good application.
