Yadal is a very quick and convenient way to open your apps from the dock with a simple right click on the dock icon I have also tried the similar application "Moof," which has an icon in the menu bar rather than in the dock. So if you have extra space in the menu bar and prefer having a launcher there, try the Moof route.
As far as launchers go, I also regularly use Namely, which is a key stroke launcher, and both Yadal and Namely are simple and do the trick quickly. One advantage to Yadal over "Namely" is you can put any folder into it, not just applications, so I stuck a Southpark and a TV series "Lost" folder at the top of the applications list, and when I open Yadal from the dock, Southpark and Lost folders appear at the top of the list and when clicked either opens to all the individual video files for selection, one click on any and they play in Vlc. I suppose I could also put a nice folder full of favorite music files preset to always open in Dropsound, SkiTunes, Play, Cog or maybe iTunes, but I haven't tried that yet, but it is a cool idea if I do say so myself and I just did didn't I? Also note that you don't have to go that far, you can have Yadal just stick to lauching aplications, and you could even go a step furhter by clicking a preference box so yadal won't open anything but applications.
Since I periodically juggle around my app files, folders or delete one and add a new one, I open up yadal's "configure" from the Yadal selections and move the apps around, delete some or add those which I wish to use more often. As you add new applications, yadal conveniently has a pop up window which opens automatically to remind you that you may with a click add that application to Yadals configuration. But there is no reason to have ALL your apps configured in, you can just set it so that your favorites are handy, eliminating clutter.
I have never had any problems with Yadal. Also, if you don't like Yadal you can delete it without any loss.
