I use ffmpeg on Mac OS X PPC 167 17 inch for stripping the audio off of videos I have, so i can play the music elsewhere, for example on a CD in my car. For example an avi file of a live concert to Mp3. This app will convert such a vast array of types of video files I think it would be hard to imagine you have some file type that this won't accomplish. If the creators want a wider audience of users they might consider giving it a name which is not only cool sounding but one that also tells what it will do for them; Video Converter-VideoVerter,VidConvert, VidAudioConVert etc?? . It is simple enough for anyone who needs something converted, just drag and drop and aminor setting or two, and so you don't have to be a geek to utilize this. I have had no trouble with it and I am no super wiz.
ffmpeg is a good partner with the free "Max" audio files converter, which can also compress large audio files to smaller Mp3 etc., for playback from disk in my car CD player for example.
